We are really excited and already looking forward to seeing you all. Thank you once again to those that came out and created such a great atmosphere on the last outing with Zernel Gillie and the legend that is Lil’ Louis. We are very happy to bring you two guests that are both exciting & inspirational to us. Detroit’s Marcellus Pittman who brought the heat when we booked him back in 2014 & Rotterdam based, new kid on the block with roots in Sierra Leone, The Congo & Nigeria, Philou Louzolo.

Marcellus is the truth! One of those DJs who will grab you and leave you begging for more. Whether it be house, disco, soul, funk, hip hop, techno, Marcellus does it best & makes it feel effortless. When other children were playing combat with G.I. Joe action figures in the early 80’s, Detroit native Marcellus ‘Malik’ Pittman was playing his radio at maximum volume, listening to the sounds of ‘the Wizzard’ and the ‘Electrifying Mojo’, in addition to the jazz outputs of Rosetta Hines.

Malik began his DJ pursuits for college parties, wedding receptions, ‘old school parties’ in the early 90’s. In 1993, Malik released his initial work of production with local hip hop collective ‘Home Grown’. Shortly thereafter, he released ‘Essential Selections, Vol. 1’ on the Sound Signature label, headed by Theo Parrish. In 1998, Malik forged a working relationship with Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and Kenny ‘Moodymann’ Dixon, collectively known as the 3 Chairs. As production artists and selectors, they have helped to define an integral part of the Detroit sound. Malik’s sound has been around the Detroit and surrounding areas, as well as internationally, spanning Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan and France, Australia, any way beyond. His dedication to production ushered the discontinuation of his latest residency with Northern Lights in Detroit. Malik is currently heading his own label, Unirhythm.

Philou Louzolo (Lumberjacks in Hell, Tink Music, Rebirth, Banofee Pies, Basic fingers)
We have been dancing to Philou’s vibes ever since we stumbled across his records. Philou is beating to the sound of his own drum, bringing much needed freshness to the european dance floor whilst bringing the sounds of Africa to audiences all over and injecting his own potent flavour into proceedings whilst doing so. He is well versed as well in the sounds of Detroit / Chicago and all things great.

To quote Philou:
“Afrocentricity, to me, means that I recognize the timeless African influences in art, culture and music and approach it as a force that cuts right through all geographical borders and preconceptions.”

We are extremely excited by what the future holds for Philou, and whatever he touches we already know it will be of the highest quality. The future is his and we will be right behind him.

As usual Tama Sumo & Lakuti will be rounding things off nicely. We look forward to your company . in these troubling times, dance harder & love harder.

Much love,
Lerato & Kerstin
