Urban Spree

The Graves are extremely excited to invite you to their Album Release and Farewell Concert at Urban Spree on the 20th of July 2018. After three tantalising years, flitting between obscurity, the stage and the studio, The Graves are finally ready to release their debut album via streaming services, digital sales and limited edition CD's. To mark the occasion, we will be having a summer party that will include live performances from The Graves and their buddies Ponte Pilas, as well as DJ Sets from Emmanuelle 5 and Jeff Collier.

Tickets - €8

20:00 - Doors
20:45 - Ponte Pilas
21:30 - Jeff Collier (DJ Set)
22:00 - The Graves
23:15 - Emmanuelle 5 (DJ Set)
00:00 - Handover to Urban Spree Club Night

Every silver lining has a cloud and, sadly, this will also be the final concert that The Graves will play, ever. Nevertheless, we intend to wrap our cloud in sparkly garments and paint a lipstick smile upon it's melancholic face, lifting it's spirits and sending it off with a bang! Dress up like you have a date with glamour herself and bring your dancing platforms because it's going to be like The Exploding Plastic Inevitable on speed.

All proceeds from tickets will go towards recuperating the costs of making the album and hiring the venue.
Dawn of the Dance and GreyZone Concerts & Promotion are happy to present

Tanning Bats
Hot shit from B to da erlin! Expect noisy fuzzy riffs and dancy rhythms. They are totally FUN!

''Health care for all''
A Cosmo records Night in favour of Medibüro-Kampagne Berlin
Mediburo Berlin was founded in 1996 as a self-organised non-government project. As an anti-racism initiative we have
been pursuing the goal of improving healthcare provision for illegalised* refugees and migrants in political and pragmatic
ways. As the factual exclusion of illegalised persons from the regular healthcare system is based largely on political
reasons we want to promote public awareness of this problem and call for political solutions by means of our public
relations work. None of the people involved are paid for their work on the project.

The Krake weekend kicks off on FRIDAY daytime at Urban Spree with the legendary Krake Label Boutique, a small record fair bringing together Berlin's underground music labels with around 50 imprints displaying and offering their work in the beautiful outside area. Next to DJ sets and surprise performances rounding off the day, the raffle, which has taken place for the last two years, is a chance to win electronic music production equipment and cool stuff once again!

The night opens with "The Quest for a Real Hardhob". Originally shown at this year's Berlinale, the silent animated movie on the dystopian sci-fi tip is completed by a live score from Andrew Millington on drums and cello, and Dave Senan on electronics. During the night expect extraordinary performances in the vast warehouse-like gallery space of Urban Spree, including a rare live performance from extreme vocalist Tim Exile, a multi-hour ambient jam by Transistors of Mercy, and a sound installation titled 'Sonic Robots' by Moritz Simon Geist, whose robotic sculptures produce noises in combination with live techno. While the basement is taken over by DJs showcasing the labels involved in the market, the Concert Room focuses on bands, live acts and DJs experimenting with the darker side of techno. Constantly reinventing himself as a musician, T.Raumschmiere joins forces with 21 Downbeat - an electronic band including several artists with disabilities determined to ignore genre boundaries to arrive at their own explorative take on electronic music. Thomas P. Heckmann (OFFICIAL) plays one of his EBM-fueled techno sets in between AJA's psychosexual rhythmic noise and the incredible punk-techno duo COAL.

Urban Spree Galerie invites the Berlin-based French duo Palefroi for a month-long residency in our Berlin studio during the first three weeks of July, followed by a week-long residency directly in the gallery, and culminating in a month-long solo show.

Damien Tran and Marion Jdanoff are two French artists currently based in Berlin. Their visual work as a duo is a constant negociation between their respective approaches.. One is formal and abstract, the other narrative and figurative. They are attached to a form of harshness in the lines, to generous proliferation, to spontaneity and wonkiness.

Palefroi is a framework embracing all of their practices: printmaking, self publishing, painting and animated drawings. It is a space of experimentation and collaboration but also a structure supporting both their work as a duo and as individuals.

Following Palefroi’s residency at Urban Spree in July 2018, their solo exhibition Étalage should consist of: wolves, people playing trumpets, a fake tiger, dancing dots, drums solo and wallpapers.

Zola Jesus live
(US / Sacred Bones Records)

For over a decade, Nika Roza Danilova has been recording music as Zola Jesus. She’s been on Sacred Bones Records for most of that time, and Okovi marks her reunion with the label. Fittingly, the 11 electronics-driven songs on Okovi share musical DNA with her early work on Sacred Bones. The music was written in pure catharsis, and as a result, the sonics are heavy, dark, and exploratory. In addition to the contributions of Danilova’s longtime live bandmate Alex DeGroot, producer/musician WIFE, cellist/noise-maker Shannon Kennedy from Pedestrian Deposit, and percussionist Ted Byrnes all helped build Okovi’s textural universe. With Okovi, Zola Jesus has crafted a profound meditation on loss and reconciliation that stands tall alongside the major works of its genre. The album peaks of tragedy with great wisdom and clarity. Its songs plumb dark depths, but they reflect light as well.

The Chilean singer-songwriter and guitarist is a grant for powerful rhythms and addictive live performances that burst with more groove and energy than ever, offering an explosive summer cocktail of Boogaloo Blues, 60s Latin Soul, Son and South American rhythms. Alongside Brazilian bassist Trigo Santana, guitarist Carlos Corona from Mexico, Japanese saxophonist Han Sato, multi-percussionists Laura Robles from Peru and Jean-Luc Jossa from Luxembourg, Puente Encina is making people dance and sing wherever he goes.
