Lakuti und Tama Sumo laden zu ihrem letzten Finest Friday des Jahres zwei Künstler ein, die sich den Legendenstatus locker erspielt haben. Als das „eigentliche Licht der House Music-Szene“ wird Kai Alcé bezeichnet. Der DJ und Produzent hat haitianische Wurzeln, wuchs auf der Antilleninsel Saint Croix auf, lebte in New York und genoss daraufhin eine musikalische Erziehung im legendären Detroiter Club Music Institute, in dem er 1987 anfing zu arbeiten. Nach einem Umzug nach Atlanta wurde er Resident-DJ im Club MJQ und Teil der dortigen House-Szene. 2008 gründete er mit NDATL (kurz für die Stationen seines Lebens: New York, Detroit, Atlanta) ein eigenes Label, das bis heute mit Veröffentlichungen von Andrés, Chez Damier, Nick Holder und ihm selbst zu den verlässlichsten Deep House-Labels gehört. Die musikalische Tiefe hat Tama und Lakutis zweiter Gast bereits im Namen stehen: DJ Deep griff als einer der ersten französischen DJs die musikalischen Enden von Chicago, New York und Detroit auf und ignorierte Grenzen zwischen Techno und House dabei erfolgreich. Als Labelbetreiber von Deeply Rooted, DJ und Radiohost bewies er über die Jahrzehnte immer einen exzellenten Geschmack.

We are so excited to close out our 2020 programme with 2 guests who have properly put in the work and in the process, have established themselves as two artists and contributors worthy of the legend status: Kai Alcé and DJ Deep.
Perhaps it’s a combination of his Haitian roots, his youth spent in St. Croix, and his New York City upbringing. It is evident when he steps behind the decks, where he is at once clearly comfortable and believe it or not, just a tad bit nervous. After more than 20 years in the business, yes, “The Kaizer” still gets butterflies. That’s probably what makes Kai Alcé such a force: He doesn’t settle down, blend in or go along. That integrity comes through in every gig he’s worked – from his early days at Detroit’s Music Institute when he was just a teenager, to the 10-year-long DEEP legacy at MJQ that he co-founded, to the production company, NDATL, that he created in 2008. He moved to Detroit in 1980, landing a job at the Music Institute in 1987 that gave him access to such would-be house luminaries as Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, D. Wynn, Alton Miller and his cousin Chez Damier. Already tuned in to the sound, Alcé couldn’t help but be inspired as the Institute became critical to the development of techno and house, with the studios churning out classics such as Innercity’s “Goodlife” and Rhythim Is Rhythim’s “It Is What It Is.” Next stop: Atlanta. Kai Alcé quickly established himself as a force in Atlanta. Playing at every important venue culminating with his weekly residency at MJQ. DEEP was instrumental in bringing Atlanta’s house scene international attention. Along with Alcé and co-residents DJ Kemit and Cullen Cole, DEEP hosted DJs such as Steve “Silk” Hurley, Phil Asher, Joe Claussell, Atlanta native Tedd Patterson, Peven Everett and King Britt, just to name six of hundreds of top-notch DJs that played over the years. His legendary NDATL imprint established in 2008 which has gone on to release house music luminaries. Kai is the real deal a looming light within house music scene.
“I see my job as being a big filter,” says DJ Deep, rather underplaying the key role the Frenchman has had in the development of house music over the last 20 years. “As a vinyl junkie, I am in the record stores chasing jams almost every day. Sharing what I think are the greatest records of the moment or the most timeless personal classics is something that has motivated me throughout the years.” Those years have seen Cyril Etienne emerge from the Paris scene to make a real impact on the world stage. He started out playing for Laurent Garnier at parties such as Oz and Zoo at club Palace, then became a regular at the Rex Club and established his unique sense of taste with his ‘A Deep Groove’ shows on pirate station Radio FG then later Radio Nova. He quickly graduated to playing worldwide, always taking with him a sense of history informed by a love of Chicago, New York and Detroit. Blurring the lines between house and techno, DJ Deep also joins the dots between classic and contemporary cuts with his own sense of story telling not only as a DJ and producer, but also a label boss and party curator. By now, he has cultivated a deserving reputation as someone with immaculate taste in music, no matter whether he's making it, playing it, or showcasing it on the radio. Since 2003 DJ Deep has gone on to establish Deeply Rooted, the label has gone on to release music from heavyweights such as Kerri Chandler, Ben Klock, Francois X, Ben Sims and Roman Poncet, including recent works by himself in the form of his Raw cuts series. Outside of his own label, the music obsessive has continually brought new depths and dynamism to house and techno over the years having released on Rekids, Kaoz Theory and Tresor and his compilations for the well respected BBE imprint became collectiveness. DJ Deep has also joined the excellent Giles Peterson Worldwide FM family presenting his Deep library show.
