No, it is not that the phenomenon of Chris Imler would have remained completely unamazed in the German-speaking world. His debut album "Nervös", for example, was regarded as "one of the most exciting records of the year" by the Austrian Der Standard, the Berlin city magazine zitty cited it as "Berlin Record of the Year". Musikexpress also noticed that "really weird, great pop music" took place here. But the prophet only experiences cult worship abroad, in Imler’s case especially in France, Italy and Belgium.
You also have to look abroad for contemporary referencs, preferably in England. Although artists like Dean Blunt, Micachu or the Sleaford Mods resemble Imler little in their immediate sound, he shares with them an attitude to punk that "preserves fire rather than worship ashes" (G.Mahler). He says YES to a cheerful imposition and to an anarchic variety of austerity, NO to premature customer service and petrified resistance formulas. He knows time is a moving target, and whoever wants to beat it to death must adjust their weapons.
Novo Line
Formerly active as guitarist for Baltimore math rock band OXES, Nat Fowler has branched out onto a solo path under the name Novo Line. His interest in pursuing a more electronic-oriented project started while Fowler lived in the recently earthquake rocked Finale Emilia, Italy; where he found discarded obsolete personal computers that sparked new interest and experimentation.
Now a Berlin resident and inspired by the city’s ubiquitous digital slot machines (that appear under the Novoline or Novomatic brand), Fowler misuses a 23 year-old software program running on one megabyte of RAM on an Atari ST personal computer as a live instrument in order to generate random MIDI signals based on a set of changing parameters that trigger hardware synthesizers from the same era. Fowler adds a layer of live performance to his explorations of junkyard process music; using live mixing, he intensifies each new piece as it develops and rises from the silicone ether, and channels the music’s innumerable possible pathways in real time so that it sails until it resolves, never again to be recreated… unless caught on tape!

Sein Debut-Album „Nervös“ galt beispielsweise dem österreichischen Standard als „eine der spannendsten Platten des Jahres“, dem Berliner Stadtmagazin Zitty als „Berliner Platte des Jahres“. Auch dem Musikexpress entging nicht, dass hier „arg schräge, großartige Popmusik“ stattfand. Kultische Verehrung erfährt der Prophet aber nur im Ausland, vor allem in Frankreich, Italien und Belgien.
Auch nach zeitgenössischen Vergleichspartnern muss man auswärts suchen, vorzugsweise in England. Künstlern wie Dean Blunt, Micachu oder den Sleaford Mods ähnelt Imler zwar im unmittelbaren Klangbild so wenig wie diese einander, aber er teilt mit ihnen eine Haltung zum Punk, die „das Feuer bewahrt, statt die Asche anzubeten“ (G.Mahler). Er sagt Ja zur fröhlichen Zumutung und zu einer anarchischen Spielart der Strenge, Nein zu vorauseilendem Kundendienst und versteinerten Widerstandsformeln. Er weiß, die Zeit ist ein bewegliches Ziel, und wer sie totschlagen will, muss die Waffen anpassen.

Ehemals als Gitarrist für die Baltimore Mathe Rock Band OXES aktiv, hat sich Nat Fowler auf Solo-Pfade unter dem Namen Novo Line begeben. Sein Interesse an elektronisch Musik begann, als Fowler in Itlaien lebte und nach einem Erdbeben weggeworfene und veraltete PCs fand, die neues Interesse und seine Experimentierfreude weckten. Jetzt in Berlin ansässig, inspiriert von den allgegenwärtigen digitalen Spielautomaten der Stadt (die unter der Marke Novoline oder Novomatic erscheinen), nutzte Fowler ein 23 Jahre altes Softwareprogramm, das auf einem Atari ST-PC auf einem Megabyte RAM als Live-Instrument läuft. Hiermit erzeugte er zufällige MIDI-Signale basierend auf einer Reihe von sich ändernden Parametern zu erzeugen.
Fowler fügt seinen Erkundungen von Schrottplatz-Prozessmusik eine Schicht von Live-Performance hinzu. Mit Live-Mixing intensiviert er jedes neue Stück und kanalisiert die unzähligen möglichen Wege der Musik in Echtzeit.
