Die ephemeren Klangkonstruktionen der Belgierin Sky H1 changieren zwischen Melancholie und verhaltener Euphorie. 2016 debütierte sie mit einem Release auf dem von Bill Kouligas und Visionist betriebenen Label PAN x Codes.
Moor Mother, Musikerin und Afrofuturistin aus Philadelphia, steht für einen musikalischen Aktivismus, den sie selbst als “project-housing bop”, “slaveship punk” oder “witch rap” bezeichnet. Mit “Fetish Bones” hat sie eines der aufwühlendsten Alben 2016 vorgelegt. Wütend, scharfsinnig und empfindsam erzählt sie darin von der Geschichte von Kampf und Verlust und der Notwendigkeit von Rebellion und Standhaftigkeit der afroamerikanischen Community.
Mit Yally, dem neuen Projekt des Blackest Ever Black Duos Raime, begibt sich diese Nacht tief in die Bass-geladenen Nischen Londons. Ausgehend von 2-Step, Grime und Garage erkunden Tom Halstead und Joe Andrews die unergründliche Welt der elektronischen Tieffrequenzen. Bei diesem Vorhaben spielt der Club eine zentrale Rolle, die eigene Vorstellungskraft ist aber nicht minder gefragt und an mancher Stelle öffnen sich Pfade und Brücken zwischen beiden Ebenen.
Wie auch bei Actress. Der sah es schon immer als seine Aufgabe an, die empfindlichen Nervenenden der Londoner Rave-Kultur blank zu legen. Jahre des Experimentierens und Verfeinerns haben ihn zu einem Sound gebracht, der im emotionalen Nebel zwischen den strengen Rasterlinien von Techno und dekonstruierten Bassmusiken tief im Kern der desorientierenden Realität Londons zu leben und zu atmen scheint.
Die Nacht endet mit einem DJ-Set von Detroit Techno-Veteran und früherem Drexcya Live-Mitglied DJ Stingray, dessen jüngste EP Ende 2016 auf Lorenzo Sennis Presto?!-Label erschien.
Virgil Abloh, Tastemaker, gefeierter Streetwear-Designer, langjähriger Kreativdirektor von Kanye West und Mitbegründer des Bromance Labels, kommt für ein besonderes DJ-Set zum CTM. Der restliche Abend steht dabei im Zeichen der Labels Staycore und Bala Club. Endgame legt mit Anglo-Reinterpretationen von Reggaeton, Future Grime und Brazilian Funk sensible Nervenenden frei. Mechatok kombiniert Clubmusik mit melodischen Passagen und Rap, während mobilegirl R&B-Diven wie J-Lo und TLC mit extrem tanzbaren Rhythmen im Spektrum zwischen 4/4-House und Trance mischt.

SHAPE platform-supported Sky H1, whose lush, vaporous constructions invoke a struggle between melancholy and joy, will perform live. The Belgian producer rapidly gained praise for her 2016 debut on Bill Kouligas and Visionist’s PAN x Codes imprint.
Philadelphia Afrofuturist Moor Mother, who attests that “sci-fi is reality,” will contribute the sonic activism she has described as “project-housing bop, slaveship punk, and witch rap.” Her music is a vessel for addressing the history of struggle and loss and the necessity of rebellion and endurance in the American black community.
Yally, the new project developed by Blackest Ever Black duo Raime in order to “explore bass futures indiscriminately,” synthesizes and builds upon 2-step, grime, and garage legacies. The club is central to this exploration, but the mind is an equal partner, offering pathways that connect the two.
Actress has always made it his business to expose the sensitive nerve endings of London rave culture. Years of experimentation and refinement have earned him a sound that lives and revels in the emotional haze between the strict grid lines of techno and 2-step.
The night is rounded-out with a set by DJ Stingray, the veteran Detroit techno producer whose career has spanned over 20 years. Initially creating his Urban Tribe alias in the 90s, while working with Carl Craig, Anthony Shakir and Kenny Dixon Jr., Stingray first donned his trademark balaclava while touring with Drexciya, to hide his identity on stage.
