Returning to CTM to celebrate the festival’s 20 years is Through My Speakers, a family united through their shared love of bass music. TMS co-founder Sarah Farina and members LEFEU, Qumasiquamé, and Walter Vinyl have invited special guests Slikback D'Njau, Gafacci, Phatstoki, and Sho Madjozi to join them.

Kenyan producer Slikback made a name for himself with 2018’s gnarly, bassy Lasakaneku, which came out on Nyege Nyege’s new label, Hakuna Kulala. One of Ghana’s most sought-after producers, Gafacci has created hits for some of the biggest names in Ghanaian music will appear in support of his first solo EP, AHUNDA. DJ Phatstoki is part of the Pussy Party team, a night that provides a regular platform for queer, femme, and women DJs/ artists to “practice, incubate, exchange, and expose.” Sho Madjozi is the South African rap queen known for gqom-rooted tracks such as “Huku” and “Dumi Hi Phone.”

In room two, US-based queer club icon Lsdxoxo will present the inaugural edition of #Floorgasm – a queer-centric party focusing on unyielding sounds – featuring Juliana Huxtable and #Wallis. LSDXOXO is the House of Vogue ambassador known for 2016 mixtape Fuck Marry Kill (via the influential GHE20G0TH1K), as well as 2018’s Baltimore club-tinted Body Mods. Polymath Juliana Huxtable is a DJ, producer, writer, poet, and artist, responsible for organising NYC’s SHOCK VALUE night, and for authoring Mucus in My Pineal Gland. Berlin-based producer Wallis crafts crunching, caustic techno.

The night takes place as part of CTM Festival 2019 – Persistence, which celebrates 20 years in 2019. Through a series of concerts, club nights, an exhibition, talks, and other formats presented from 25.1.–3.2.2019 at various Berlin venues, CTM 2019 invites both longtime and new artistic collaborators and partners to collectively consider the struggles that come with balancing continuity and changeability. In this spirit, this edition's theme of Persistence examines the aesthetic and societal potentials and pains of perseverance, and of its opposite – the transient and the provisional. It’s not only a fitting allegory for our 20th birthday, but also describes an attempt to consider what is worth being persistent about, and how.
