The story of Renate begins like so many others: in 2007, a group of creatives discovered the dilapidated old building in the former East of the city. True to the post-reunification years, the building was initially a multifunctional space. Storage areas, shelters, and workshops were quickly transformed into the first floors, while apartments and community spaces emerged simultaneously. The transitions between art performances, parties, backstage, and after-hours in the living room were fluid both in terms of people and space. This closeness early on shaped the familial and creative character that still defines us today, almost 18 years later, making us one of the oldest clubs in the city.
We look back fondly on 18 years full of beautiful moments, events and parties and forward with confidence to our uncertain future. Many friendships and collaborations have been formed. With this spirit, we want to start our Birthday Rave on 12.09 - 15.09.
And if 2025 marks the end of Renate, we are proud of what we have co-created and celebrate those 18 years together.
