Mit einer knapp 30 Jahre umfassenden DJ-Karriere, die neben großer Beachtung für seine hervorragenden und im Bereich bratziger Techno-Beats nicht eben alltäglich anzutreffenden Mix-Skills auch zwei eigene Plattenläden im Londoner Camden und mehrere eigene Label mit sich brachte, erarbeitete sich Jerome Hill kontinuierlich den Ruf eines Underground-DJs, der in seiner musikalischen Auswahl generell nie einem Trend folgte. Ebenso unkonventionell präsentiert direkt vorweg Jamaica Suk ihre soeben erst im Groove-Interview besprochenen und kürzlich im Berliner Boiler Room angewandten postmodernen Formen des melodischen Geschichtenerzählens. Obendrüber besucht uns erstmalig ein anderer sehr umtriebiger britischer DJ und Produzent; Medlar, der nach seinem Start auf Wolf Music direkt vom Kult-Duo Bicep geremixt wurde und dessen aktuelle EP „NRG“ auf Delusions of Grandeur herauskam, brachte innerhalb der letzten Jahre einige oldschoolige House-Tracks und Remixe unters Volk, die tatsächlich allesamt aus der Masse hervorstachen. Nebenan trifft das Soundsystem des kanadischen Labels Invisible City Editions auf den derzeit auf Running Back beheimateten Telephones, während Sado Opera ein paar Türen weiter ihr fulminantes Love Radio zelebrieren.
Looking back on almost thirty years of a very unique underground dj career, which led him to quite unusual turntablism skills for a techno artist, Jerome Hill worked consequently in order to ignore all kind of trends and mainstream sounds. With this attitude he also ran two record stores in Camden, London, and still carries record labels like Don’t or Super Rhythm Trax, often using broken beats and hip hop elements. This time Jamaica Suk plays the warm-up set at the black room, who just spoke to Groove Magazin about her “postmodern forms of melodic storytelling” and showed what this means in her Boiler Room appearances just some days ago. Above another British dj and producer, Medlar, comes along for the first time. His first Track for renowned label Wolf Music got eventually remixed by Bicep the same year and even his new ep “NRG”, which came out on Delusions of Grandeur some months ago, still got the same outstanding mixture of oldschool house and disco attitudes. Next door the label head of Canadian imprint Invisible City Editions plays his soca and tropical disco influenced set next to the Norwegian Telephones, whose debut lp “Vibe Telemetry” came out on Janson’s Running Back, while Sado Opera will host again the Absinth Room with their Love Radio.
