Kompakt Records
is a record store, an international distributor, a record label and the home of the “Cologne sound”.

Launched in 1998 by Wolfgang Voigt, Jurgen Paape and Michael Mayer upon the back of pre-existing labels Profan and Auftrieb, Kompakt soon developed its signature “Cologne Sound” – a mix of minimalism, melody, and melancholy, often with an underlying pop sensibility.

Over the past seven years Kompakt’s inherent love of melody and emotion has seen the label embrace such seemingly disparate styles as ambient, minimal techno, tech-house, shuffle-tech, trance, and pop. The creation of sub-labels such as Kompakt Pop and Kompakt Extra hints at the diverse and ever-growing nature of the label.

SCSI-9
Scsi-9 are electronic musicians from Rus-sia, a significant part of Moscow‘s club life. To the present day, Anton Kubikov and Maxim Milyutenko have had more than 60 releases on labels like Traum, Trapez, Kompakt, Force Tracks, Neuton, Klik, Mor-ris Audio and Pro-Tez. Since some twenty years they are making tech house, deep house, deep techno, downtempo and am-bient music, along with numerous remi-xes. Some widely known appearances are also on „Fabric“ and „Kompakt Total“ compilations. Live concerts in some most famous clubs like Fabric, Panorama Bar, D-Edge and Unit as well as gigs on festivals like Love Para-de, Monegros, Fusion, Transmediale, Pulse, Migz, Global Gathering, Fortdance and Ostrov took them all over the world, and probably put Scsi-9 among the most regarded techno artists from Russia.

Thomas Fehlmann
The roots of almost Thomas Fehlmann’s almost 30-year-long career lie in his work with German avant garde band ‘Palais Schaumburg’ he co-founded with partner Holger Hiller. In the late-eighties he produced as Ready Made, and in the nineties he worked together with Basic Channel’s Moritz Von Oswald and Juan Atkins as 3MB as well as started a partnership with Alex Paterson and The Orb. To various extents he has collaborated on all Orb albums. Fehlmann produces a weekly radio show, OceanClubRadio, with Gudrun Gut and has been responsible for countless remixes and productions for a eclectic selection of artists ranging from Erasure to Einstuerzende Neubauten. He moved to Berlin in 1984. After Palais Shaumberg split in '85, he dedicated himself to his home studio and the sampler, releasing records as Ready Made. In 1988 he founded the Teutonic Beats label, whose compilations featured early contributions from artists like Jörg Burger, Wolfgang Voigt, Moritz von Oswald, Sun Electric and Westbam. Through the label, Fehlmann became friends with Dr. Alex Paterson of The Orb. Fehlmann later contributed to many Orb releases, becoming a part-time member of the group. In the 90s he was a resident at the legendary Tresor Berlin. Together with Moritz von Oswald and Juan Atkins he formed 3MB, helping to cement the Berlin-Detroit connection. Since 1995 he has been involved with the legendary Berlin-based Ocean Club, which has been broadcasting a radio show since 1998 - now worldwide. This decade Fehlmann has produced two full length dub-ambient albums (‘Lowflow’ and ‘Honigpumpe’) as well as embarked on a neverending club tour, both by himself and together with Alex Paterson as The Orb. Recently Fehlmann extended his set up to two hours with the introduction of material from his ´Lowflow´ album, released on Plug Research in 2004, creating a long big wave from downbeat to his very own brand of - in the words of the village voice - green house.

Justus Köhncke (Official Fanpage)
„HEY MUSIC LOVER!“

From punkrock to acid, ballads to techno, "Whirlpool" to "KOMPAKT" - cologne-based producer, singer and DJ Justus Köhncke has surely come a long way.

Justus started off in the late 80s with his first project "Blood And Honey", a Düsseldorf-based duo doing nothing but electronic versions of Amanda Lear songs. After moving to cologne in 1990, Justus, heavily influenced by house music, began producing tracks with different people, especially DJs Hans Nieswandt and Eric D. Clark. At this time, he started spinning his own special mixture of records in the cologne scene as well.
