9 Jahre befindet sich der Suicide Circus nun schon auf dem RAW-Gelände an der Warschauer Brücke, eine Gegend, die inzwischen zum Hotspot geworden ist, aber immer noch ein bisschen an das Ost-Berlin der 90er Jahre erinnert. Ursprünglich 1994 in einem alten Fabrikgebäude in einem Hinterhof in der Dircksenstraße eröffnet, atmete man in vollen Zügen die damalige Aufbruchstimmung nach der Wende und lebte mit einem ambitionierten Team sowie einem eingefleischten Stammpublikum den Spirit der Stadt. Damals ging es weniger um das große Geld als vielmehr darum, den vielen Gleichgesinnten ein übergroßes Wohnzimmer mit einer anständig lauten Anlage für die eigene Lieblingsmusik zu geben. Das Industriedesign aus Insignien des sozialistischen Produktionsprozesses passte perfekt zum Klang der damaligen Zeit: Digital Hardcore als Schnittstelle zwischen Techno, Industrial, Gabba, Drum and Bass und Punk. Doch das musikalische Korsett erwies sich schnell als zu eng. Atari Teenage Riot gaben sich schließlich mit internationalen DJ-Größen die Klinke in die Hand. Der Club öffnete sich dem Klang, für den er seit nunmehr zwei Jahrzehnten steht: Techno. Das bedeutete zur damaligen Zeit Pionierarbeit. Der Name SUICIDE geht auf die gleichnamige Band von Alan Vega und Martin Rev zurück, die bereits in den 70er Jahren mit ihren Synthesizern und Drumcomputern einen ersten Grundstein für den Sound späterer regelmäßiger Gäste und Clubgrößen wie DJ Hell, Electric Indigo, Ellen Allien, DJ Rush oder Wolle XDP und Tanith setzten. Nachdem der intensive Kampf mit den Ämtern auch vor dem Suicide nicht Halt machte, wanderte der Laden im Rahmen der Casinopartys als Veranstaltungsreihe sowie als späterer Casinoclub nomadisch durch die Stadt. 2009 startet im Friedrichshain der Suicide Circus erneut, um sich zu den Wurzeln des Clubs zu begeben, nämlich der Musik und den Leuten in familiärer Atmosphäre. Das feiern wir mit vielen langjährigen Wegbegleitern und einem bunten und anpruchsvollen Programm.

Suicide Circus is 9 years on the RAW site at Warschauer Bridge, an area that has become a hotspot, but still a bit reminiscent of the East Berlin of the 90s. Originally opened in 1994 in an old factory building in a backyard in the Dircksenstraße, you breathed deep the then mood of change after fall of the wall and lived with an ambitious team as well as die-hard regulars, the spirit of the city. Back then it wasn't so much about the big money as it was about giving the many like-minded people an oversized living room with a decently loud sound system for their own favourite music. The industrial design of the insignia of the socialist production process perfectly matched the sound of the time: Digital Hardcore as an interface between techno, industrial, gabba, drum and bass and punk. But the musical corset quickly proved too tight. Atari Teenage Riot finally took the jack in hand with international DJ greats. The club opened up to the sound it has been celebrating for over two decades: techno. That meant pioneering work at the time. The name SUICIDE goes back to the band of the same name by Alan Vega and Martin Rev, who in the 70's with their synthesizers and drum computers, laid the first foundations for the sound of regular guests and club greats which were to appear such as DJ Hell, Electric Indigo, Ellen Allien, DJ Rush or Wolle XDP and Tanith. After the intensive fight with the authorities didn’t stop even before Suicide, the venue migrated as part of the Casinopartys as an event series and later as the Casino club nomadically through the city. In 2009, Suicide Circus started again in Friedrichshain, heading for the roots of the club, namely the music and the people in a family atmosphere. We celebrate this with many long-time companions and a colourful and challenging program.
