Berlins Nachtleben im Wandel: von der geteilten Stadt über die Clubszene der Neunziger bis zur heutigen Partymetropole. Wer war von Anfang an dabei? Anhand der drei spannenden Biografien der legendärsten Türsteher Berlins, erzählt BERLIN BOUNCER von den Gründen und Abgründen dieser Entwicklung.
Frank Künster kam aus Westdeutschland in eine Stadt, in der Smiley Baldwin als amerikanischer G.I. noch die Grenze nach Ostberlin bewachte und Sven Marquardt als junger ostdeutscher Punk und Fotograf plötzlich von der Wende überrascht wurde. Bald verfingen sie sich im wilden Berliner Nachtleben der neunziger Jahre und wurden im neuen Jahrtausend zu den berühmt berüchtigten Selektoren der angesagtesten Clubs der Stadt, deren Türen und Geheimnisse sie bis heute hüten.
Dieser Film handelt vom Erwachsenwerden mit 50 Jahren und von verschiedenen Lebensentwürfen. Er zeichnet Berliner Kulturgeschichte vom Mauerfall bis in die pulsierende Gegenwart nach. Dabei begleitet uns der einzigartige Sound einer Stadt und ihrer Clubs, der für die drei Protagonisten und die Feierwütigen die Nacht zum Tage werden lässt.

Documentary film that portrays three Berlin bouncers and tells a piece of history from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the present day.
Berlin's nightlife is changing: from the divided city to the club scene of the nineties to today's party metropolis. Who was there from the beginning? Based on the three exciting biographies of Berlin's most legendary bouncers, BERLIN BOUNCER tells of the reasons and abysses of this development.
Frank Künster came from West Germany to a city where Smiley Baldwin as an American G.I. was still guarding the border to East Berlin and Sven Marquardt as a young East German punk and photographer was suddenly surprised by the turning point. Soon they got caught up in the wild Berlin nightlife of the nineties and in the new millennium became the notorious selectors of the city's hottest clubs, whose doors and secrets they still guard today.
This film is about growing up at the age of 50 and about different lifestyles. It traces Berlin's cultural history from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the pulsating present. We are accompanied by the unique sound of a city and its clubs, which turns night into day for the three protagonists and the party-goers.
